"Ruslim Isa (the bus driver), 43, who was sent to the Teluk Intan Hospital for a broken right leg after the 5.55pm accident, had seven summonses issued against him for speeding, five for illegal overtaking and one for not using an overhead bridge."
Because of such recklessness, three lives were lost. One of them, Nian Ning, is a junior of mine to whom I was very close to. I am in shock, angry and utterly confused. Nian Ning had everything in front of her - a bright future as a medical doctor, a great and loving family and friends who love her, and goddamnit, her whole life. But it had all been taken away from her just like that.
I met her in 2005, when I was in my second year in junior college. She stayed in my cluster, and had just come to Singapore (although she went to another college). Intelligent, spunky and really caring, she was a great friend and someone you could talk to. On top of that, we bonded over the fact that we were from the same state in Malaysia. I remember talking to her at the beginning of December, and because I thought I was gonna make a trip back, we promised to catch up. But I never did go back, and now I won't get to see her ever again.
Wherever you are right now, Nian Ning, I hope it's a better place and may you rest in peace.
