I decided that self-love is more important than any other love. And to start off the new year with this theme in mind, I went for a pedicure ♥

How's everyone doing??? I hope everyone's had a good year so far~

For me, 2009 was a year full of memories, and lots of learning experiences. I have lost friends, had my heart broken out of my own stupidity, so to speak, found a job that I like and excel in, and keep my love for my favourite boys alive ♥ It's not such a bad year, if you think about it.

In 2010, apart from self-love, I will strive to be a better person, and to enjoy myself more :D Today, while at a second hand Japanese book store with [info]mienai2401, I got myself an Omikuji, and my fortune this year is 大吉 (Greatest blessing). It says that a person I have been waiting for, and whom I will only meet once in a thousand years, will appear before me this year. I wonder who it is, lol!

Also, Japan in less than two weeks! :D :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE ♥!

Picking out a few pictures to post over the next few days. Most of them are from Japan - it's my way of reliving the good times :)

Cute twins we saw at Yoyogi kouen.

Fuchu no Mori Kouen, aka where Kurosawa Akihiko waited for Anego ldsajldja

Interview went okay yesterday. Got called back for a second round of interview next week. Crossing my fingers!

It's been a blast, the past 4 months. I'm now back home, where I can sleep on my own comfortable bed with a bolster to boost. And the weather is not freakishly cold every day that I have to wear 3 layers before I can step out of the room.

But I'm missing Japan like crazy. And I'm missing my friends there a lot. It's not the same not hearing Japanese everywhere, cycling everywhere you go, and speaking in English which sounds almost American (that's what my friends insist, anyway xD). I am in love with Japan. And it doesn't look like I'll fall out of love anytime soon ♥

The best thing is, I'm already making plans to go back. The tentative plan right now is as follows:
May 16th - Flight from Singapore-Narita.
May 19th-21st - KAT-TUN concerts, but not all 3 days.
May 22nd - Highway bus up to Sendai.
May 27th or 28th till June 1st - Okinawa
June 2nd - Flight back to Singapore.

Anyone gonna be in Japan around this time and wanna meet up? Am pushing my initial schedule back by a LOT, just for KAT-TUN. I hope the tickets work out :DDD

Didn't have time to do the Happiness Meme the past 2 days, but here goes!

Day 3: Farewell party thrown for me by the lab, and having lots of fun with everyone for the last time. My labmates gave me a yukata set and a message card with everyone's message on it which made me cry.

Day 4: Okonomiyaki with Hermann, Chris, Alex, Yui, Arno and Moon. I love these guys a lot a lot.

Day 5: Dinner and drinks with Valerie, Nick, Teddy, Adam, Greg, Takashi, Kaori and Zaiki. 3 hours of drinking, and joking and having fun. I love these guys, too.

*

I came back to the following message from Naoki:

"...アイリーンがシンガポールに帰っても、俺らはずっと友達だからね!!日本に来たら、絶対連絡ちょうだいね!東京で遊ぼうゼィ!

あんま泣かないで笑顔で帰るんだよまた会える日まで、アイリーンらしく元気で頑張ってね"

He asked me not to cry, but I'm crying so badly now. I'm happy. But parting is not easy.

Eight Days of Happiness
The rules are that for 8 days you have to post something that made you happy that day. Tag 8 people to do the same.

Lots of Plus X gum and Plus X cube in a bottle :D And Meiji milk chocolate for 89yen from Seiyu ♥

I'm waiting for the staff of the management office to come and do a pre-inspection for my room (I'm moving out this Friday), but they're now 25 minutes late and I'm hungry and want to cook my yakiudon D:

Valerie's boyfriend, Curtis, came from Seattle yesterday, and we went out to an izakaya for dinner! It was a totally spontaneous move, because yours truly saw the sashimi 5 types for 700 yen and dragged them in :DDD

We got: Yakisoba, Agedashi tofu, Sashimi, Fried rice with beef and lettuce, Squid served with mayonnaise, Sukiyaki and drinks, for 1200yen per person which, I really must say, is decent for izakaya food (even though they tricked us with the cold dish which came with the drinks :|).

And because I am awesome, you get two pictures :P

food food glorious food! )

After that we decided to go for ice cream at Baskin Robbins, but not before purikura!

Gyutan again tonight! Hopefully! :D

Taken at Matsushima and Orange Range concert, and one random, rather bleah one. It's been a busy busy week!

Teddy, Nick and I decided to be silly at Matsushima since everything was so overwhelmingly beautiful and spectacular.

Yay! )

Not-so-yay. )
Eyepatch, because I'm a PIRATE!

... Not. I have an eye infection right now and it sucks because it's almost the middle of the week and classes are ongoing. Not to mention that clinics and hospitals in Japan are a pain in the ass to find at odd hours, since most (like, 99.9999%) open at 9, and close on weekends and public holidays. I woke up with a painful eye, and had to wait an hour before the one closest to us open, so that my clustermate, Wei-Lin, and I could walk there. A call to the management office proved to be futile because they, too, were not open, and the security guard there was like, "Oh, just wait till 9am and call a taxi."

Seriously. But I'm all okay now, even though I need to have the eyepatch on for the next couple of days, no contacts, and probably have to walk to school since I don't dare to cycle with one eye :|

Gah. I wanna go to Rikyu for gyutan. Particularly to the Sendai Station Higashiguchi Honten.

But why does the one Rikyu that KAT-TUN went to have to be the furthest one from meeeeee? *kicks something* I need to drag someone there with me, too. LOL.

I has 2 parties tomorrow. One in the afternoon after the softball match, and another in the evening, which is basically a nomikai that my lab is holding to officially welcome me into the lab :D

Also, Alex and Teddy are laughing at me for using "lolcats" speech. D:

Gotta be up at 6 in the morning! Good night everyone! ♥

I just thought I'd put up some pictures here, since it seems my facebook album is too shy to go public D: *kicks facebook*

Typhoon Irene hitting up Kansai )

The town megaphone is blasting some weird music right now. WHYYY? Also, karaoke was fun last night! Kazu knows JE songs! We sang DON'T U EVER STOP and TOKIO's Ashita o Mezashite together *____* And Greeeen's Ai Uta and Kiseki. The other kids were like, HOLY SHIT, THEY'RE SINGING IN JAPANESE. It's kinda hilarious.

But after that, we missed our last bus back to the dorm, which was at 9.15pm, and ended up walking 1.5 hours back DDD: Never wanna do that again.

The non-Caucasians in the group are starting to group up :x The rest went for nomihoudai (where you pay a certain amount, usually 2000en, and drink as much alcohol as you can in 1.5 hours) last night after Aoba castle, and the rest of us went for dinner at Clis (not Cris, my bad. Lol).

Also met this really cute guy called Kazu (short for Kobayashi Kazushige. Such a mouthful :x), but I found out from his facebook that he's interested in Caucasian girls, and already has his eyes set on a French chick D: But anyway, he's bringing us to this recycled bicycle place, and then we're probably going karaoke tonight! asljdlasdljsal FINALLY. (PLS LET ME SING MY JE SONGS PLSSSSS.)

I still need to go shopping. Buy jackets and tights and more jeans to cover myself. The wind almost froze me and blew me off the bridge yesterday when we were hiking (yes, hiking!) up the hill to get to campus. Such an adventure you give me, Japan.

Also, group pic! No points for guessing which is Kazu ;D (Pic is courtesy of Moon, the Korean guy who so kindly helped us take this photo, and is therefore not in it D:)

We got scolded pretty badly on the bus today. Some people just don't understand the concept of "keeping your volume down" -_-''' Not only that, right after the lady said to stop making so much noise and that if we keep doing that, NOONE can hear the bus announcements, one of the guys turned around, looked at me and went, "Okay, please translate." I wanted to stab something.

As we were walking back to our block, this Chinese girl from Sweden asked me, "Do you always take care of your manners like this, or are you at your best manners here?". I guess it's cos I kept my volume down when I'm with them, and though I mostly have lots to say (like giving directions, translating stuff from Japanese to English for them and vice versa), I mostly make sure I don't talk too loudly. I was stunned. That was when I actually felt like I was different from the others. I didn't feel like I was being anything other than how I've always been back home, but the non-Asians could definitely tell the difference between me and them, although a lot of them told me, "For a moment, we forgot you're not European/American. That is, until you walk into a supermarket here and could tell exactly where everything was." Kinda LOL-worthy, I think, this kinda cultural difference.

Anyway! I got my phone! It's a one-push Softbank flip phone in light pink~ It doesn't have any amazing functions or anything, but... I'm okay with that ^_^ Almost all the guys got one of those models on which you can watch TV, and they were like, "You gave up having TELEVISION on your phone, so that you have a push-button on the side???" XD What can I say? I'm superficial :D THE PUSH BUTTON IS DAMN COOL OK.

... And I almost forgot. My email address is rin.aj1009@softbank.ne.jp. No extra points for guessing what the "aj" means XDDD

Went shopping quite a bit today, too. Was at Cris Road, which is basically like, the shopping place in Sendai. Now I have hangers, a laundry basket, earphones for my phone and a cute little music-and-hearts handphone charm! We actually had to take the bus out to the city area to get there, but gah, I wanna go there on my own again! I couldn't really go crazy when I'm with like, 15 other people, all of whom do not understand the beauty of Tsutaya or Shiseido's Marquilage makeup range. Or appreciate Greeeen's キセキ when Yodobashi Camera plays it. LOL.

I still have pictures from Tokyo that I've not yet uploaded, and some pictures of my room. I will post some of them here when I do that ^__^

Take care everyone! Don't fall sick! (It's getting cooooold in Sendai!)

Arrived at the JR Sendai station by bus at 2.30pm yesterday and was promptly transported to the International House for briefing. Had quite a huge scare as well, cos I thought I lost my passport, but it turned out that it was in my laptop bag all along, but I didn't think of checking there, since I don't normally put things there. Was relieved I couldn't help crying ;_;

Sendai is very very different from the big cities, and it's mostly students here. I'm staying at the University House Sanjo, and it's a 5 minutes walk from the nearest Family Mart, as well as the neighbouring Tohoku Fukushin University. I made a friend yesterday, Ji Hye from Korea, and we went to Family Mart to get some food together 8D Chanced upon a cemetery on the way there, though, so we were like, "Oh shit O_O" at each other. But the International House is the one right beside it (now I get why someone from the previous batch told me that the Int'l House or Kaikan, is like a haunted house), and UH Sanjo is a little further away.

Was gonna sleep all the way till 7, but at 3.30am, I was suddenly wide awake and couldn't go back to sleep. This is not good, really. I'm gonna be a zombie later during the alien registration =_=

Anyway! I have an address now! Send me letters or whatever if you can! ♥!!!

Irene Ooi
Tohoku University UH Sanjo
West Building No 616
19-1 Sanjomachi Aobaku
Sendai City, Miyagi
981-0935 Japan

That's all for now. Am gonna try to get 2 more hours of sleep before I'm supposed to wake up xD
